9 Morning Rituals To Start Your Day

Times are changing and we are getting busier by the day, information overload paralyses us, loneliness is in the work place and the pressure of social media and the false expectations we feel we need to keep up with are taking it toll.

We all have 24 hours in a day and it is up to us to make the most of it, but with the belief of the speed life is coming at us we open our eyes in the morning and instantly begin reacting to the day by picking up the phone and checking … social media, emails, messages and not allowed ourselves the decency of acknowledging ourselves with love, kindness and gratitude to allow creativity, expansion and pursuing our truth.

Here are 9 morning rituals you can start your day with …

Stretch

As soon as you open your eyes … even without lifting your eyelids start to stretch wriggle your toes and fingers lengthen your arms and legs and squeeze your muscles … It’s a beautiful way to say good morning to your whole body.

Incense

Aroma provokes all kinds of emotions, brings back memories transporting us to a different place and time … it also creates memories so what about setting the mood for your mornings by stimulating the olfactory system to enjoying the beginning of the day with experiences of aromatic pleasures.

Lemon Water

How about prepping your body with some warm lemon water? The vitamins and minerals are a dancing delight for your digestion and it gives you a chance from sleep to wake cantering in presentness.

Yoga

Find a space that you can goto in the mornings lay out a mat and enjoy some time for yourself. You don’t have to do an hour of yoga to welcome the day … a 10min Sun salutation is fantastic to open the lunges and stimulate the creativity of the mind and body for day.

Meditate

If you are doing yoga you can settle in to savasana and notice how wonderful some gentle movement feels from sleep to waking for the day.

If you’re not doing any yoga find your quiet place in the house, garden or where ever it might be … seated is a great way to meditate, whether your on a chair or cross legged on the floor, keep your back, neck and head straight, but relaxed. Close your eyes half way or completely.

You might like to use and app on your phone to follow or simply listen to the silence and hear what it has to say to you. You might notice the sounds of the weather outside, your breath animals moving around … just notice what is there.

Bathing

Getting into the shower or a bath with your favourite soap, lotion, using the water to cleans the mind with stillness, the body with water and the soul with peace building a beautiful place for healing, refreshing and strengthening.

Read

Is there something that you would like to learn? Give yourself permission to read before you start your day, your fresh and ready to take in new information … enjoy it. Maybe it’s personal development or a new language, maybe you enjoy history or gardening. Allow yourself the enjoyment and peace of the morning to learn.

Journal

This is great fun! You can write down your dreams, create a story, affirm your affirmations, relive your perfect day and ad more detail to it. Have fun with it get creative, make sense or don’t but you free space in your mind to welcome more experience, joy, learning, creativity into your day.

Just one rule … Make it positive!

The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities

~Dr Stephen Covey

The more time you can allow yourself in the morning, the more centred you can be throughout the day. It gives you an opportunity to create moments … memories that you can tap into during the day when you may feel low in energy or mood. Finding gratitude in your day by creating experiences of self love, self care and self respect to transport you to a place of peace and joy in an instant.
