What do you want them to reflect?
We have all heard the saying you never know who’s watching! Well when you have children … of your own or your friends or family’s kids … You know they are watching!
They want to be just like you!
You are a grown up …
A parent …
Aunty …
Uncle …
Grand parent …
Brother …
Sister …
Mentor …
It may appear they have no interest in you or what you’re doing but they are listening, looking, feeling, smelling and tasting you are what is about you!
If you are happy … they know …
If you are sad … they know …
If you are hiding your true self for fear of hurting them they know (eg. staying in a relationship) … they know …
If you are hating on self and using food to delude yourself of having control …
… they know …
If you are identifying with illness … they know …
If you are bursting with love, life and kindness they know …
The kids around you are learning from you!
Kids with obesity or under weight, eating or not eating are learning from you! there is no escaping it … you are their guide … for the ways of life.
We as guides, mentors, parents, teachers … whatever we are in a kids life, make an impact and we do the best we can do at the time.
We all make mistakes, have our own issues, we make an effort to shield them from or expose them to experiences and pray that we are doing a good job.
Providing food and teaching to eat is our responsibility as parents, adults as carers to our children whether they be ours or someone else’s …
It is a form of love and when sharing love do you give a synthetic replication of your love or do you do your best to give from what is in your authentic heart to provide?
Delivering a menu and atmosphere around food and eating doesn’t have to be fully organic and highest of quality all the time!
As long as there is whole food on the menu at different times no matter your financial circumstances …
… There is some kind of engagement and knowledge shared of what fruits and vegetables are …
… And kindness and understanding of ALL the different shapes and sizes we are and our children are.
We will grow our younger generation with less focus on individual compartments of our/their lives and show them that it all flows together.
Food is not separate to our mind, it is not separate to our body and it is not separate to our relationships with ourselves and every others.
Eating is the same, it comes with a thought that we are hungry and can become a welcoming energy or a destructive one … flowing into a physical activity that continues from our thoughts and emotions … providing us with information about our internal relationship … whether its enjoying eating, the atmosphere or the company whether alone or with others.
If we can instill in our kids that foods from the earth are yum, easy, our original source of goodness that can be, chopped, juiced, blended, baked, eaten whole, steamed … prepared in many different ways without losing its value … is our greatest medicine for the mind, body and soul.
Products in packages the have ingredients in them that you have to google to understand (if you can) have little to no nutritional value for us to thrive.
Don’t get me wrong occasionally it’s easier to get junk food to fill a gap … but take the lesson from it?
Do you feel good after eating it?
Do your kids act differently?
Are they hungry 10mins later?
Get them to notice it too!
Teach your kids to make good choices … they don’t need to be on diets!
Create a wholesome MENU for them … not a belief that there is something wrong with the way they look and feed fear into what they are aloud and not aloud to eat!
They need us as their love and guidance barometer, to educate ourselves on the basics …
Humans have survived for thousands of years with fruits, vegetables and meats. All without severe processing, chemical infusion or synthetic imitations or genetic modification … over time and rapidly growing technology we have almost lost sight of the basics.
If you feel you don’t know where to start …
Buy some fruit and share it with the kids learn something about it and share it with them, explore the taste, texture, aroma, flavour … ask questions if they know how it’s grown? Where it is grown?
You both learn, interact, share love and kindness and begin a journey of nourishment on so many levels.
