Creating More Time For Fun

Creatively Manipulating More Time

Everything seems to be everywhere, clothes over the house, papers over the desk, files not in there folders, you have to take this person here and you have to be there, your running late for work and you still need to get the washing hung on the line.

Being overwhelmed is only a feeling you get when you have lost what your main objectives for the day or week and you haven’t stuck to the tasks at hand that will keep you calm and organized.

When you have finished dinner and put kids to bed or feed the animals or whatever your nightly ritual. Sit down and plane your next day. Write down what you need to accomplish tomorrow and stick to them.

I don’t mean a ‘to do’ list that is as long as you are tall, but the really important tasks that will make a difference to your day. This took me a while to work out how to do but I have now got a great rhythm, with the family and we still have spare time during the week to do fun stuff.

When you have a busy schedule there need to be a balance, some things just don’t get done, remember THAT’S OK! Small tasks can be done when you have a little extra time because you have rearranged your activities and it just happens.

Cleaning was my downfall or so I thought…I have several friends that have cleaning as one of their most important tasks to complete every day. At the time I had two young children, a four bedroom house, I was full time at University, training for my sport and caring for my mum.

Cleaning was not a priority to me at that time…

but because I thought that is what is expected of me (worrying what other people thought) that was a ‘must’, nearly at breaking point I realised that I had to delegate some tasks to the kids and diversify my daily tasks.

The kids loved helping out and felt very proud of themselves for doing a great job…lightened my load. Cleaning was moved to a day we all agreed on and what we didn’t get done in an hour got finished at a designated time during the week and jobs for the next day where sorted before we went to bed.

Keep it Simple

How to Enjoy your day

  • Make a list before you go to bed of all the big/important tasks that need to be done
  • Share the jobs around the household
  • Drop the ‘stuff’ – things that don’t make a difference to reaching your objective
  • Schedule time in for fun
  • Make the tasks you don’t like doing more fun with a reward at the end of completing it.

It might take a little while to find your rhythm but once you do you will be surprised at how much better you will feel and how much more relaxed your body will be.

I hope this helps in some way please feel free to comment and let me know your tips on how you created more time in your day.
